By Tim Lubinus
Do you know people who have a special curse word that they say when something bad happens? In the church someone might say “darn” or “shoot”, but we know what he or she is really saying. These curse words give some people the idea that they can somehow righteously curse.
In the church we sometimes accept a form of righteous lying. I hate it. Righteous lying is when a Christian wants to mislead someone and because he knows that it is wrong to lie, simply leaves out clarifying information. The believer justifies this sin by saying that technically what he said is true and is not guilty of lying. Actually now he is both lying to himself and misleading others. Misleading someone by leaving out information is as much lying as much as shouting darn is swearing.
Let’s all be careful not to fall into this subtle sin. If the truth is painful to admit, the sin of lying by leaving out clarifying information doesn’t make it better.
