Jesus encouraged parents to allow their children to come  Him. He blessed the children and acknowledged to all that one could not come into His kingdom unless they come as a child.

During the recent tornado in Moore, Oklahoma, children were gathered a the school to brace for the tornado.  In an attempt to keep the children calm, the teachers instructed the children to sing songs like, “Twinkle-Twinkle Little Star”.   However, as the tornado hit the school with full force, the children cried out to their teachers and asked if they could sing, “Jesus Love Me This I know”.  The teachers said yes to the children’s request, and as the building blew away, the children were singing, “Jesus Loves Me This I Know, for the Bible tells me so”.  Sometimes in our lives children do lead.

As the summer season arrives there will be opportunities to teach our children about Jesus through events like Vacation Bible School, Back Yard Bible Clubs, Block Parties, Mission Trips, and many outdoor activities.  With great care, adults will plan and prepare to teach our children about our Lord.  Its a wonderful time of learning about Him.  Some adults, in our culture wonder if it is really worthwhile to put so much emphasis on teaching about Jesus.

In our culture today we have witnessed adults passing laws and policies that do not allow children to pray in schools, say the pledge of allegiance, or use the Christmas greeting. Yet in the middle of a horrible storm, the children lead the way to sing about Jesus in a place where organized prayer may not be allowed.

Jesus blessed the children in His day.  In Matthew 18: 2-4, Jesus called a little child and had him stand among them, and He said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

The next time you wonder if it is worth all the time to prepare and teach children about Jesus, just remember the tune coming from that school in Oklahoma: “Jesus loves Me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.”

At BCI, we love and welcome the opportunity to partner with you in preparing and teaching children about Jesus.
