Morgan Burden is a sophomore student leader in The Salt Company and is also heavily involved with the fraternity in which he resides. I meet with Morgan in a small group setting weekly, and in a one-on-one setting bi-weekly. He often speaks of the difficulty of living in a fraternity, where the “party” lifestyle is acceptable and openly encouraged and the copious challenges he faces as a result of being a Christ-follower within that environment. However, he never wavers in his desire to stay within the community in order to better love his peers, and he clearly feels burdened by the depravity within.

Recently, Morgan told me of a fellow fraternity brother named Gabe that had been known to be supplying drugs to other members of the fraternity. Gabe is friends with Morgan and has heard Morgan speak of Jesus, and even attended The Salt Company weekly gatherings a handful of times. Mere weeks ago, Gabe’s life was shaken when a (unnamed) fraternity brother he had supplied drugs to overdosed on said drugs and was taken to the hospital. Praise God, he is doing well with no obvious long-term effects. Gabe, however, was very upset by it all. He pulled himself out of the fraternity in an effort to start moving his life in a different direction.

He very quickly contacted Morgan and asked to talk. Morgan readily agreed and they met up for lunch. Gabe talked of his desire to change things up, and mentioned how he had seen Morgan’s life and example, and wanted to know more. Morgan then got to share the Gospel with Gabe and offered him a Bible. The conversation ended with prayer and a spoken desire to meet again. Praise God for using the testimony of Morgan’s words, coupled with his lifestyle that drew Gabe to Christ in Him.
