A public announcement of an intent to nominate an officer at the 2017 BCI Annual Meeting can be made between Oct. 1, 20176 and Oct. 15, 2017. A one-page written statement (no more than 150 words) can be submitted with the announcement that will be published in Oct 20 & 27 editions of the E-Newsletter, on the BCI website and included in the program materials for the messengers.
The statement should cover topics normally included in resumes plus any other information that the person making the announcement thinks is valuable. A valid announcement of an intent to nominate an officer must be made by a pre-registered messenger for an individual who is qualified to be an officer. Announcements should be sent to MStenberg@bciowa.org.
Each elected executive officer must have been a member of a Convention affiliated church and must have been an advocate for, and an active participant in the life of the Convention for no less than two years at the time of election. Each elected officer must have a strong and faithful record of service and a solid understanding of Southern Baptist doctrine, policy, and practice.
At the time of officer elections during the annual meeting, a registered messenger desiring to make a nomination of an officer, must come to the front and report to the secretary their intention. The secretary will validate that the nominator is a registered messenger and the proposed nominee meets the basic qualifications of an officer. Nominators will be allowed up to sixty seconds to make their nominations. Nominees will be asked to stand at the time of the nomination, but will not be given floor time to introduce themselves.
