Over 250 Iowans went to the Iowa State Capitol on Tuesday February 3rd to present every legislator their own personalized copy of The Founders’ Bible. Over 130 churches from all across the state supported the Bible presentations with over 80 churches represented in person.

The event was organized by Bob Vander Plaats’ organization, The Family Leader. Vander Plaats said the version of the Bible the group distributed — the Founders’ Bible by David Barton — is among his favorite, as it links American history with a Biblical worldview. “Sometimes I think it’s good if we go back to our founding,” Vander Plaats said.

Several members of BCI churches participated in the event, including Jerry Mease, from New Bridge Church in Winterset, who presenting a Bible to State Representative Stan Gustafson, BCI Staff member John Shaul presented a Bible from Metro Baptist Association to State Senator Julian Garrett, and Pastor Todd Stiles from First Family Church in Ankeny. BCI Executive Director Tim Lubinus presented a bible to Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller.

In an email after the event Bob Vander Plaats shared, “We are getting very positive feedback from several legislators who have started reading the Bible, which incorporates numerous accounts of our Founders, and their reliance on the Bible when they laid our country’s foundation.”
