Church planter Israel Becerra knows the importance of reaching the next generation of Iowa’s Hispanic communities. That is why he led his two church plants to host Vacation Bible Schools in their communities. A financial grant from the Baptist Convention of Iowa helped these two churches provide dynamic, gospel-centered events aimed at sharing Christ with the children in Marshalltown and Waterloo.

Iglesia Bautista Hispana in Waterloo held their first ever VBS from July 18-20. With a theme of “The Army of God,” children were taught about the power of God displayed through people who knew they were were powerless without him. Nineteen children expressed a desire to follow Jesus. Additionally, Becerra is celebrating the thirteen adult volunteers who served for the first time!
Although the tornado caused a change in schedule, Kairos Church in Marshalltown was able to serve twenty-seven children through their VBS on August 21-24. Becerra said that the outreach not only reached Hispanic children, but also several from African families. Seven children indicated a desire to follow Jesus!
