August marked the start of a new school year, bringing freshman from all walks of life to campus. The first weeks of school are so vital to an individual because that is when friendships and connections are formed. During the week leading up to classes, our goal was to meet and connect with as many individuals that we could. We started each morning humble and dependent before the Almighty King, knowing that we could do nothing to bring people to Him, but he can do everything. We prayed, urged, and pleaded with God to open the doors for us to meet the lost and build relationships. We didn’t know who or what we were praying for, just that God would move on The University of Northern Iowa and in the hearts of freshman.
We prayed that The Lord would open doors, to our surprise his answer was to open physical doors. The second night, we gathered in the recreation center planning on playing games in the gym. We were met with disappointment due to only one gym being open and no equipment available to use. However, a locked door is no competition for God. Through a connection, we were able to get another gym unlocked, which quickly filled with hundreds of freshman who soon began connecting and playing multiple games. It is a powerful sight looking across a gym that was supposed to be locked, now filled with hundreds of people who we were praying for earlier that morning.
