22 Trained for Iowa DR

The recent Iowa Disaster Relief (Iowa DR) Training on November 8th and 9th in Grimes, Iowa, was a significant success, marking the best training event for Iowa DR to date. Led by Iowa DR Director Gared Shaffer, the event brought together 28 participants for the foundational DR101 training, and five additional attendees completed specialized chaplaincy training.

With six experienced instructors and team members from Missouri lending their expertise, the training highlighted the importance of collaboration and the readiness of Iowa’s churches to step up in disaster relief. Missouri DR’s ongoing support has been crucial as Iowa re-establishes a capable local DR response.

More Mobilization Required to Meet the Need

Amie Chumbley, Missions Director at Crossroads Community Church and host of the event, reflected, “The need for mobilization in Iowa is clear, and I hope we can recruit more Iowans to get trained and become Iowa DR team members.” The event energized 22 new participants to engage with Iowa DR, equipping them to respond compassionately and effectively in times of crisis.

The successful training emphasizes Iowa DR’s commitment to expanding its reach, empowering local volunteers, and strengthening disaster response efforts across the state.

Please make an effort to attend the next training and partner with Iowa DR in its mission to bring help, hope, and healing to people in crisis.
