Empowering Gospel-Centered Missions and Economic Development in Liberia

How One Generous Donation is Making a Big Difference

When organizations come together for a common cause, the results can be astounding. The collaboration between BCI, Van Meter Baptist Church, and Empowered to Restore Ministries is a perfect example of the power of partnership and its potential impact on the lives of people in need.

Baptist Convention of Iowa (BCI) recently made a small donation to support Van Meter Baptist’s efforts to develop the local economy in Liberia. This donation will further strengthen the church’s ability to support gospel-centered missions work in the region.

The Power of Partnership

Van Meter Baptist Church had the honor of hosting Trecie Bolton, Founder and President of Empowered To Restore (ETR) Ministries, Intl., along with her husband Sid and Bishop Joseph G Johnson from Liberia on Sunday, April 16, 2023. This meeting came about as a result of a chance encounter between Deb Speas and Trecie Bolton on a flight to the National WMU Board meeting, where they struck up a conversation and then began to exchange text messages about the possibilities of partnering together.

The church was moved by Trecie’s mission and, with the help of its members, was able to fund 15 manual sewing machines for Empowered to Restore Ministries. The congregation was thrilled to hear about Bishop Johnson’s work in Liberia and how he is transforming the lives of the indigenous people in that country. The conversation was uplifting and encouraging, as the group discussed how they could partner together to advance the gospel through missions and service. “I’ve been a pastor for just a year, and at times, it can be challenging to know how much to ask of my congregation,” said Pastor Rusty. “But after speaking with Deb, we both knew we had to take action. We were able to raise funds for 15 manual sewing machines, and to our delight, the church matched our efforts. The impact of our combined efforts was truly remarkable.”

Expressing her gratitude, Trecie Bolton said she was truly thankful for the opportunity to spend time with Van Meter Baptist Church. “We had an amazing time with a great group of brothers and sisters at Van Meter Baptist. What a great body of believers with sound doctrine and a heart for God. This family opened their arms and hearts to Empowered To Restore Ministries as they leaned into what God is doing through ETR ministries globally. Thank you to my dear brothers and sisters for your love and support. We couldn’t do what we do without believers like you.” What a great reminder of how much can be accomplished when individuals and organizations come together to further the gospel around the world.
