“All things have been created through Him and for Him… and by Him all things hold together.”
Colossians 1:16-17
College students will never be outdone in passion, but for many it is a restless, misdirected, passion. There is nothing more powerful than when the greatness of Jesus overwhelms a young man or woman and God breathes life into that passion, giving it purpose and direction. History bears testimony to the power of this age group when they are fully enthralled with Jesus.
College offers no shortage of passion-exhausting options for students, but to what end? As Paul encountered the situation in Colossae where Jesus had been dethroned and human wisdom, empty philosophy and dead religion had been exalted, he didn’t get defensive and dismantle each of these movements at their roots. He simply asserted the greatness of Jesus.
At our fall kickoff, we followed Paul’s cue and opened the scriptures to Colossians 1:15-23 and asserted the greatness of Jesus in the context of a dethroned Jesus. Please join us in praying for our students this year that they would be captivated by what is truly captivating.
