The 2018 BCI Ministry Life Retreat was a powerful time of applying the gospel to imperfect ministries and the imperfect church leaders in attendance. On April 19-21, 65 pastors and church leaders gathered at Stoney Creek Hotel in Urbandale for a time of refreshment and encouragement.
Retreat speaker Zack Eswine, author of several books including “The Imperfect Pastor,” explained how our society urges us to do “large, famous, and fast” things in ministry. In contrast to this, Zack reminded us that the path of biblical wisdom (Ecclesiastes 10) is one of doing things that are “small, mostly overlooked, over a long time.” And how do we act wisely like this? The key is love (1 Corinthians 13). The retreat was a timely and poignent reminder that the gospel is our source of encouragement in times of discouragement and a reminder of our limitations and shortcomings in times of success.
