NAMB training equips Iowa churches for lasting impact
Event Report: NAMB Evangelism Training – April 1, 2025
On April 1st, nearly 120 pastors and church leaders gathered at First Family Church in Ankeny for a practical, hands-on training aimed at helping churches build a lasting culture of evangelism.

The event, hosted by the Baptist Convention of Iowa and led by Tim Dowdy, Vice President of Evangelism for the North American Mission Board (NAMB), challenged leaders to think beyond programs and seasonal campaigns and instead weave evangelism into the fabric of their churches.
The guiding emphasis, “Creating a Culture of Evangelism…Not a Campaign,” framed the entire training. Dowdy walked attendees through the NAMB Evangelism Kit, which is available to all SBC churches free of charge (LINK). He encouraged leaders to utilize a variety of evangelism tools, reminding them that people respond to the gospel in different ways—and we need different methods to reach them.
He also emphasized the importance of integrating evangelism into the regular rhythms of the church, especially through prayer, teaching, and preaching. Evangelism shouldn’t be a program we do once a year, but a vital expression of who we are as Great Commission Baptists.
We’re grateful to Pastor Todd Stiles and the incredible team at First Family Church for hosting the event and serving attendees so well.
So, what’s next for your church in evangelism? Whether it’s equipping your members with practical tools or simply starting with intentional prayer for the lost, every step matters. Let’s keep making gospel-sharing the heartbeat of our churches.
