It seems like all semester our leadership team has been praying for a student named Isabella.
She got plugged into a connection group, loved coming, but still was not ready to place her faith in Jesus even though she knew how far she was from God. Two of our student leaders, Madison and Kayla, pursued Isabella consistently and tried to push her to Jesus. They never gave up on her, and their efforts showed that God was definitely pursuing Isabella even when it wasn’t clear how He was working.
Madison, one of the student leaders who was sharing the gospel with Isabella remembers the story this way:
“Isabella was introduced to our connection group right before the height of COVID-19. I met her at our last in-person gathering of Salt Company. The first night we met she shared with me that she had a lot of questions about God and she wasn’t really sure what she believed. We set up a time to get coffee and chat, but sadly that never happened due to the pandemic. Isabella jumped into our connection group head first despite everything being online. Every week through a video call she would be asking questions and giving us prayer requests.
“One night I was answering some of her questions over FaceTime and walked her through Romans 10. She noted that she identified with the person described in Romans 10:1-3 who gets excited about God but hasn’t committed their life to Him. Every time I talked to Isabella, she seemed so close to placing her faith in Jesus, but something was holding her back. The girls in our small group prayed for her salvation regularly, as would the student leadership team at Salt Ankeny. I wanted it to be done in my own timing so badly, but I was reminded of 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 and how my connection group had done everything we could. We planted the seed, but God was in control and He would do the rest. And that is exactly what happened.
“After our last Salt Company online gathering of the year Isabella shared with us that earlier in the week, she had placed her faith in Jesus. She said it with such ease and independence it was proof that it was nothing a human could say or do, but it was all God. God did it.”
