Eric Schumacher, BCI Pastoral Ministry Director, recently had the privilege of speaking at the 2024 Men’s Retreat hosted by Pastor Gene Stockton and Men’s Ministry Coordinator Dan Evert at Heartland Community Baptist Church. In this article, Eric reflects on the retreat’s key moments, the powerful theme of “The Good Gift of Weakness,” and how the men of Heartland responded with deep engagement and fellowship.

Heartland Men’s Retreat Report

by Eric Schumacher, BCI Pastoral Ministry Director

I had a great time at the Heartland Community Baptist Church Men’s Retreat. The men of Heartland Church were incredibly welcoming, making me immediately feel like one of them. I had the privilege of speaking four times on the topic “The Good Gift of Weakness,” covering “Weakness in Creation,” “Weakness in the Fall,” “Weakness in the Gospel,” and “Weakness in the Christian Life.” The attendees were engaged and responsive. I was encouraged on Friday night when the men gathered around a campfire and spent nearly 90 minutes discussing and applying each point of the talk. Each of Saturday’s talks were followed by small group breakouts where the men discussed the content and practical applications for their lives. I was very encouraged by conversations with the men. Their passion for Christ and living for Him was evident.

Thank the Lord for these men, and this weekend at the 2024 Men’s Retreat. It is always a blessing when we get to hang out, learn from each other, and worship together!
