The most popular time to start churches in Iowa has been around Labor Day. That means that the final decisions for starting in the fall are often made around this time in the spring.
There may be other churches starting that I don’t yet know about, but I know of plans for seven church starting efforts in Iowa for this fall. These are preparing to start in Sioux City, Johnston/Grimes, Carlisle, Iowa City, and three in Des Moines. Some of the sponsoring churches include Weswind Church in Waukee, Redeemer Church in Cedar Rapids, and Capitol City Church in Des Moines. If you would like to participate in these efforts through prayer, funding, or people, let me know and I will connect you with the church planters.
We also have two new affiliates, existing churches that are now partnering with the Baptist Convention of Iowa for ministry. One of them should be final soon, the other has completed the affiliation process: Capitol City Church in Des Moines. We welcome Pastor Mark Carter and the people of Capitol City to our family! Get acquainted with them here.
In April a group of twelve of us attended Exponential in Florida. Several of us came back saying that it was a very valuable time to not only hear from several church planters from around the world, but to interact with other church planters in Iowa. I’ve already heard of new partnerships and initiatives among our Iowa pastors that began at the conference.
Finally, I’m still looking for church staring team leader to join the BCI staff. I’ve offered the job to four people so far, but we weren’t able to seal the deal. Ideally, someone from the mid-west who’s been involved in church planting. Let me know if you have a recommendation or if you have a other comments on church planting.
