Iowa Disaster Relief Volunteers Assist with Missouri Tornado Cleanup
Iowa Disaster Relief (Iowa DR) volunteers recently served in Rolla, Missouri, responding to tornado damage that impacted several areas across the state.
As part of the Southern Baptist Convention’s broader disaster response network, Iowa DR brings Help, Hope, and Healing to communities in crisis—and this trip was no exception.

A team from Cornerstone Community Church in Chariton joined the effort, including both seasoned volunteers and first-time responders. The group cross-trained in various roles including chainsaw cleanup, food service, and shower/laundry support.
Volunteer Vickie Northway shared, “Our team had the opportunity to serve in multiple areas, and everyone kept a great attitude. We even had a chance to pray for one another, including a moving moment when we gathered to pray for a team member’s daughter battling a brain tumor. All the workers gathered around the father to pray for Annie, many of us with tears in our eyes.”
“It was powerful to see the unity among workers from different states, all coming together to serve in Jesus’ name. As we served Matthew 25 came to mind many times. When we give to or serve those in need, we are doing this to and for our Lord. Praise the Lord for this opportunity!”
Jessica Alldredge, from First Grace Baptist Church in Sheffield, served as onsite chaplain and incident command assistant. “I didn’t expect to be answering phones and praying with tornado victims, but it turned out to be exactly where God wanted me,” she said. “Disaster Relief reminds me what it means to be the hands and feet of Christ. Serving alongside other believers is a joy and a privilege.”
Thank you to everyone who served—and all the churches and individuals who support Iowa DR throughout the year. Stay tuned for upcoming 2025 training opportunities!
