New Affiliation: Great Commission Baptists
Matthew 28:19-20 – “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
The Baptist Convention of Iowa Executive Board voted to affiliate with “Great Commission Baptists” as of July 1st, 2021.
“Great Commission Baptists” is a descriptor of the Southern Baptist Convention that was passed by SBC messengers on June 12th, 2012. This descriptor can be used by any church or convention to highlight the centrality of the Great Commission of Christ as found in Matthew 28:19-20.
Regarding the descriptor, J.D. Greear, former president of the Southern Baptist Convention said, “The Great Commission is what unites our Convention. Our Convention adopted this language in 2012, recognizing that ultimately what brings us together is not a shared Southern heritage but a commitment to the Great Commission.” (from Baptist Press)
why give to the cooperative program?
One distinctive of Southern Baptists is that they come together to give toward greater ministry. The Cooperative Program is the way that we partner together to advance the gospel of Jesus Christ in our country and around the world.
