ALPHARETTA, Ga. —On Oct. 2, Southern Baptists are encouraged to take time to pray for pastors and missionaries who are spreading the gospel worldwide. The special day is set aside as part of the North American Mission Board’s (NAMB) TenTwo prayer emphasis, which comes from Luke 10:2 in which Jesus calls on His followers to pray that God would send more workers into the harvest field.
He told them: ‘The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.’ (Luke 10:2, HCSB).
NAMB president Kevin Ezell, International Mission Board (IMB) president David Platt and Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) president Ronnie Floyd, pastor of Cross Church in Springdale, Ark., will lead the prayer webcast.
“There is absolutely no substitute for prayer in any facet of life,” said Ezell. “Prayer is the primary, fundamental need in any mission endeavor. I would not think of taking any action without God’s counsel. And 10:2 is a daily reminder that living life on mission includes praying for others as God sends them to the mission field.”
Floyd said this is a critical time for Southern Baptists to be praying.
“Prayer is the greatest action we can take to mobilize our churches and raise up next generation missionaries to reach the world for Christ,” said Floyd. “God can do more in a moment than we can do in a lifetime. This is why each of us should participate with the 10:2 webcast where we gather to pray online from across the world.
“No great movement of God ever occurs without first being preceded by the extraordinary prayer of God’s people,” Floyd continued. “This webcast is an expression of God’s people praying in an extraordinary way. I hope many will join us as we call out to God together for the world to be reached for Christ.”
NAMB started the TenTwo emphasis as a way to focus on praying for current and future missionaries. Southern Baptists are encouraged to pray at 10:02 each day—morning or night.
The TenTwo prayer webcast begins at 10:02 AM Eastern Time on Thursday, Oct. 2. The 30-minute broadcast can be viewed at www.namb.net/tentwo. It will be archived for future viewing at the same site.
