Grace Church Des Moines hosted the “Let God Speak” Bible Conference and pastors’ luncheon August 4, 2014. There were 55 in attendance who enjoyed a barbeque lunch and fellowship as well as a talk by Dr. Jason Allen, President of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, on the topic “Recovering the Relevance of the Word for Pastoral Ministry.”
Phil Winfield, Senior Pastor at Grace Church commented, “Encouraging, motivating, instructional, and reassuring are all good descriptions of the ‘Let God Speak’ pastors’ luncheon held August 4 here at Grace Church with Dr. Jason Allen. I believe Dr. Allen really rung the bell on the issue of the relevance of God’s Word for the 21st century New Testament church. We have no other truth to share than biblical truth, and the best way to share it is to read it, expound upon it, and apply it to life. We all left reassured that God’s Word is more than relevant—it is God’s timeless truth that simply must be preached with clarity, power, and conviction.”
In his message, Dr Allen told local pastors that “Faithful preaching is Word centered preaching.” Quoting 2 Timothy 4:2, he urged those in attendance to “Preach the Word,” explaining that he felt that expository preaching most honors the authority and status of scripture.
Pastors and others from churches across Iowa enjoyed a time of fellowship and discussion during and after the Luncheon.
