At Salt Ankeny we started off the year with a Spring Semester Kickoff in order to cast a wide net and reach new students for the semester. Chick-Fil-A partnered with us and graciously donated chicken sandwiches to help draw in the students at DMACC. Our student leaders went to three different student living apartments and knocked on over 500 doors to personally invite people to the first Salt Company of the year. Even though the goal of the apartment blitz was to hand out flyers for the Spring Kickoff, students used that time as an opportunity to build relationships with the people who answered the door and have spiritual conversations with them. We constantly say that “the student leaders are the hands and feet of the ministry” and that statement couldn’t be more true. Without their love for Jesus and ambition to reach their peers with the gospel, we wouldn’t be able to reach college students.
So many new students came to the Spring Kickoff and of course everyone loved free Chick-Fil-A, but the most important “win” was the personal relationships that were started and the amount of new people who were immediately plugged into a connection group. About a fourth of our current student leadership team initially came to Salt because someday knocked on their apartment door and personally invited them to Salt Company. Now fast forward and it is amazing to see how our leaders are reaching out to others in the same way they were reached. The apartment blitz and Spring Semester Kickoff have propelled us forward in reaching DMACC with the gospel and drawing people into deep spiritual community
