Pray for Calvary Baptist Church

CITY: Indianola, Iowa

PASTOR: John Jakes

WORSHIP: Sundays at 10:10am

INTERESTING FACTS

When Calvary Baptist Church was first planted in 1976, the church used to meet on campus at Simpson College. After that, the church met for worship for a season at a lcoal bar which no longer exists. One interesting fact is that we still have several longtime members of our church who have been actively involved in the church from when it was planted. The second pastor, Claude McFerron, was instrumental in providing our current facility which was built in 1984. Pastor Claude was very influential in the state convention and was well know for helping several churches build permanent facilities around that same time.

UPCOMING EVENTS

During this season when all the things we are used to doing are not options, we have begun asking the question, “What would Jesus have us do now?” This has been really healthy to ask that questions even though it is often challenging to do what we feel He is calling us to. We are starting an outreach this fall to reach youth students in Indianola. We will be having a frisbee event in the local city parks and after the game, we will invite students to a Bible study. We want to reach out to youth that need Jesus. But if they can’t come to us, to our building where we are used to doing our ministry activities, then we have to go to where they are. Please pray that this ministry will be effective in reaching many youth with the gospel of Jesus.

OTHER PRAYER REQUESTS

Please pray for several families in our church who are going through various kinds of family transitions. Some of the families are dealing with kids moving out of the home for college. Some are transitioning to being empty nesters. Others are transitioning from the working world into retirement. Pray that they will have grace through the transitions and that they would be able to be Kingdom ambassadors wherever their life circumstances take them.
