by Kira Klepel,
The Thursday after Simpson students moved onto campus we had an ice cream social at the Friends Church. We usually have one of these every year to get people acquainted with the people from Salt and also the location. In preparation for this night we got 3 gallons of ice cream and some toppings, because we were expecting about 50 people to show up.
The ice cream social was scheduled to start at 9 pm, so staff showed up at 8 to get stuff set up and spend some time in prayer. We simply asked God for people to show up, and for Him to shine His light through us. 8:45 rolled around and there were 20 people in the basement of the church.
Twenty people! And it was 15 minutes early! Soon there was a line out the front door for ice cream. Students continued to show up, and I was amazed at how many of those people were freshman or new faces. We reached a point where we were obviously running out of ice cream, so we had to go get 3 more gallons. It was extremely hard to count the number of people that showed up that night, but there were well over 100 for sure!
We were all just amazed at what God did and how many people he brought. I mean, we knew that people were going to come, but that night was a simple reminder that God is faithful, and He will remind us of that when we are least expecting it.
