Southern Hills Baptist Church, Sioux City, held a Bible Art and Sports Camp July 12-16, 2021. They had 55 children in attendance from 1st grade through 6th grade. They learned about discovering Jesus and chose to do either a soccer or crafts track. They learned a Bible verse each day and heard a mission story about Mary Slessor’s life as a missionary to Calabar, Africa.

OFFERING TO FUND WATER WELL IN AFRICA

The camp offering went to help fund a well through Pure Water, Pure Love, a compassion ministry of Woman’s Missionary Union, designating it for a well in Africa. Each day at the closing service, the offering collected during camp was counted in a unique way. Students carried one blue balloon for each $10.00 given and counted by tens out loud. By the second or third day they had given $360.00. The excitement and screaming shouts of joy as the generous giving was identified was contagious! The blue balloons representing water could be seen at the top of the well by the last day as they reached $500 in giving!

Just as Jesus spoke in John chapter 4, the students learned that physical water is not all that is needed for life. Pure Water, Pure Love also uses the wells they fund to share the gospel and about the water of life that springs up within when someone receives Christ.

WMU’s Compassion Ministry of Pure Water, Pure Love provides vital water resources around the world. Your gift to Pure Water, Pure Love supports its three-fold mission:

  1. to supply missionaries with water filters.
  2. to provide the people they serve with clean water resources
  3. to supply missions teams with water filters for use on short-term mission trips.
