A team from BCI recently returned from a one-week vision trip to Central Asia in support of The Daniel Project. The Daniel Project was started 10 years ago by church leaders in Iowa with the goal of recruiting, training, sending, and supporting “close proximity” believers to share the gospel and serve churches in predominantly Muslim countries in Central Asia. This is an effective strategy because believers from nearby cultures have an easier time adjusting to and being accepted in the communities where they are sent and can be supported for a fraction of the cost of personnel from North America.
The trip had four main purposes: to encourage and support Daniel Project personnel, to serve in ministries to refugees, to serve IMB personnel living on the field, and to evaluate three Daniel Project personnel candidates. The team got to experience the ministry first-hand with Daniel Project personnel from Albania. They participated in a unique evangelism project to distribute Bibles and Christian apologetics materials on an island near the main city that is a popular picnic spot. The team offered free henna tattoos while personnel shared a Bible story relating to the imagery. There were three Daniel Project candidates on the trip as well to determine if they are good candidates for future support.
In 2019, BCI churches collectively supported the Daniel Project through a financial grant from the Iowa Ministry Fund.
