Our goal is to identify, train and develop young adults to respond to Disaster Relief ministries throughout the summer months of June and July of 2016. The students will be assigned to national teams that will be trained in all areas of SBDR. The summer experience will also include personal growth and character building.
This is what students who served last summer had to say about the experience:
“It is an incredibly tangible way to share the love of Christ and be missional. When you go into a person’s home and help them, you would be amazed at the way they respond to it. They cannot believe that college students would give of themselves and come help them. When you finish, they are overjoyed because someone cares for and loves them. It’s hard to think of a greater feeling than that. Through the work, you also have the opportunity to share the gospel with them, and that’s a wonderful thing.” Matt, LA
“You get a unique opportunity to hear the Lord’s voice in your life. From personal experience, when you’re so focused on genuinely serving others, God uses that as a bridge to get to your heart. It doesn’t matter that all you may be doing is just nailing in sheet rock or tearing up floors. He says his most profound things when you’re doing the most mundane.” Miranda, GA
”When I started in collegiate DR, I immediately fell in love with the people. From homeowners to yellow hats (DR volunteers), all the people you come into contact on a DR site will bless you immensely. Everyone is so caring, and you’ll feel like a part of the DR family whether it’s your first time or hundredth time being on the site.” Sharon, OK
This is an eight week commitment and all students must complete and submit a student missionary application through NAMB. All transportation expenses for the summer will be covered by NAMB and SBDR. The deadline for applications is April 1, 2016. To access the application, click here.
If you know of a student who would be interested in serving next summer with Disaster Relief, please share this email with them. We would love to discuss this opportunity with them. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
