The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps (Proverbs 16:9)
A new year’s holiday is a fitting time to both review our plans and acknowledge the One who establishes our steps. A deliberate planning process must also recognize that God is the conductor of the orchestra that we call history.
Before considering some areas of planning in behalf of the Baptist Convention of Iowa (BCI), I want to recognize that most of the ministry among BCI affiliated churches takes place among the thousands of disciples of Jesus who live, love, serve, and teach within their own families and communities. Followers of Jesus, gathered together in churches, is God’s method to reach the world.
In 2016 the BCI’s planning process will be to consider how to upgrade our church planting processes, our church and pastor support structure, and our contribution to helping the hurting among us. While we continue to make plans, we also acknowledge that the Lord may direct our steps in unexpected ways.
This year, please pray with our leadership, boards, committees, and staff as we steward the many resources God has given us to impact the people of Iowa. Pray that we boldly move forward while honoring the lessons of the past.
In 2016, let’s continue to courageously proclaim the good news of Jesus, start and develop churches, and see the Holy Spirit change lives. In this New Year, together let’s trust God’s loving providence and rejoice as He continues to arrange history for His own glory. Thank-you for being part of the Baptist Convention of Iowa. Happy New Year!
