Cornerstone Community Church of Chariton hosted its 5th annual Iowa Men’s Conference January 25-26th with approximately 200 men in attendance. More than 130 men and boys gathered at First Family Church in Ankeny the weekend of February 1-2 for their Iowa Men’s Conference. BCI began partnering with Cornerstone to host the conference in 2016. In 2017, First Family Church of Ankeny began hosting a second location for the conference. The theme of this year’s conference was “Subfloor: Building On A Firm Foundation.”

The keynote speaker for the Chariton conference was Tierce Green. Tierce is the executive director of the Authentic Manhood Initiative, which is a partnership with Authentic Manhood aimed at teaching men the principles of authentic manhood from God’s Word. Tierce talked about “Disrupting Conventional Manhood,” “Facing Adversity,” and “Built to Serve – Built to Last.”

Pastor Paul Miller of Cornerstone Community Church in Chariton was the keynote speaker for the Ankeny conference. “The 2019 conference was by far the best one yet due in part to the leadership of our Men’s Ministry Servant Leader, Doug Davis,” Pastor Paul Miller said. “What a blessing from the Lord to partner with BCI and churches like First Family to reach out to the men of Iowa with a strong call for authentic biblical manhood!”

Conference attendees came from 17 different churches throughout Iowa to participate in the conference. “It is exciting to see the vision for this conference begin to take root and bear fruit,” said Chris Eller, pastor of small groups for First Family. “Each year we see more men embracing their responsibilities as husbands, fathers, friends, and co-workers.”

The Iowa Men’s Conference is a partnership between Cornerstone Community Church, First Family Church, and the Baptist Convention of Iowa. Plans are already underway for the 2020 Iowa Men’s Conference. “We are looking to continue building on the foundation established the last four years in Chariton and Ankeny,” said Chris McRae, discipleship team leader for the BCI.  “Even now, we are in discussion with churches in Northeast Iowa to see if we can expand the conference into that region of the state,” McRae added.
