Crossroads Community Church in Red Oak recently held its first Women’s Conference to great success. Pastor Ricky Rohrig was pleased to see how well it was received by the women of the church and plans to hold an even larger event next year.

The event started on Friday night with dinner and a meet and greet for all the women. On Saturday, the special guest speaker, Sonya Brunner shared her testimony followed by breakout sessions to round out the conference. Sonya was back on Sunday morning to participate in the Crossroads weekend worship service. As a gifted vocalist, Sonya led the congregation in music during the service.

Guest Speaker Sonya Brunner

The special guest for the women’s conference was Sonya Brunner. Sonya is a worship leader and women’s ministry leader and her husband is a pastor at an SBC church. Sonya started a ministry called Fifty Shades of Grace through which she travels the country talking to women about about Human Trafficking, sexual abuse, and how to break the chains of these strongholds in a real and relevant way. Sonya herself was the victim of sexual abuse as a child but now has an incredible testimony of how God delivered her from that abuse and continues to be used by God to minister to other women. Sonya has ministered in hundreds of churches and women’s events through more than 25 years of ministry.

Healing and Outreach for Women

The Crossroads event was an outreach to women in and around Red Oak and the event drew multiple women from outside the church. The women’s ministry leaders were able to collect contact info from guests and invite them to get connected in the church. Ladies at the event were challenged to deal with their “crud,” the remains of what sin has left behind in their lives. One of the key topics was forgiveness and how to let go of bitterness. “When you take the trash out, you don’t go back to bring it in. You let it go,” Sonya said. The women were encouraged to write down at least one piece of “crud” they wanted to get rid of and pray for God to release it. It was a powerful weekend of ministry and Pastor Ricky and the Crossroads women hope to have Sonya back to do a bigger event in the future.
