It has been such a great start to the year and its all to the credit of the work God is doing here on the University of Iowa campus! We have been amazed at the stories of our students and the ways that God is drawing in people.
We started off the year with our leaders retreat. This year we have 89 student leaders. This adds a big logistics component but we love having so many students devoted to spreading the gospel and discipling other students. It has been a joy to see our students be empowered in boldness and to selflessly and tirelessly serve time after time at the beginning of the year. They have already sacrificed 3 full Saturdays to serve at the football games and have started meeting in bible studies and discipleship groups. We are so proud of our leaders.
The beginning of the year didn’t start the way we thought it would but we can see how God’s hand was in it all. We were supposed to meet outside on campus. A week before our kickoff another ministry asked us to not meet there because they have their ministry meeting at the same time inside a building next to the park we were to meet at. We wondered why God gave us this awesome chance to be outside and proclaim the gospel to students all over campus. We prayed that there was a reason we had to move back to the theater where we usually meet for the Thursday night. Thursday came and it poured rain all day long. It was clear that God had been protecting us from having to change our location that day as there was no way we could have met outside anyways. We were all filled with thankfulness for that week long preparation of telling people where we were meeting. That night there was 325 students, our biggest kickoff yet!
The next week we had 325 students again and the following week we had 353 students. We just praise God for the work he is doing and how he is drawing in students. We have never had that many students attend on Thursday night and its exciting to see that happening. Thank you for supporting us!
