Chris McRae celebrated his retirement from BCI on December 31st, 2022. Chris has served at BCI for the last 8 years, most recently as a member of the Church & Pastor Support Team. Chris and his wife Sue moved to Iowa to serve BCI in December of 2014 to provide leadership in the areas of discipleship and small group ministry.

Many Years of Ministry History

Prior to coming to BCI, Chris and Sue served in many ministry capacities. Just prior to joining the BCI staff, Chris was lead pastor at a local church in Las Cruces, New Mexico. In the intervening years, Chris has served numerous churches in many capacities. Chris has provided advice, counsel, resources, and friendship to many pastors.

Serving Pastors as a Leader and a Friend

Over the past few years, Chris has had a significant influence in serving the pastors and churches in the Southwest region of the state. One of those pastors serving in the region is Pastor Ricky A. Rohrig Sr. of Crossroads Community Church in Red Oak. Regarding Chris’ support, Pastor Ricky said, “Chris has been a positive influence as a leader and a friend. He is always supportive when it comes to serving pastors through prayer, being a person you can vent to, or being someone who is wise and gives an objective perspective. Chris not only takes the time to listen, but he also cares about pastors and encourages them in a friendly, pastoral manner.”

Noel Gandy, Pastor of Christ Point Church in Shenandoah said that Chris has had a great impact on him and his family. “Chris has become such a good friend. Not just in the help he provided as we were planting Christ Point in Shenandoah. Beyond that, both he and his wife Sue have become dear friends to our family after we moved from Mississippi to Iowa. They have taken a big role in supporting not only our ministry, but also our family. Chris is the person I felt like I could call anytime, for any reason. He has always been a blessing to me. I’m happy for Chris in his retirement but I will really miss the support he provided in his ministry capacity.”

What’s Next for Chris & Sue?

The start of a new year is always a natural time for transitions. Regarding the timing of his retirement, Chris said, “I recently finished an interim pastor role at a church in Harlan. I also knew that the Pastor & Church Support team was going to be re-evaluating responsibilities so it felt like a good time to make my own transition.”

While Chris has officially retired from his BCI role, he says he will likely continue some of the things he did for the role. “I’d like to keep meeting with the pastors in the Southwest region. I really want to continue those relationships. Beyond that, I’d like to spend more time working on projects around my house.”

God bless on the next step of your journey, Chris and Sue!
