God has been faithful in the ways He continues to use The Salt Company in Ames as a way for the gospel to reach the ends of the earth. He is continuing to work miracle after miracle through his saving grace of restoration in the lives of college students, whose lives are being completely transformed and grow a fire to live for Jesus.
We recently held baptisms at Cornerstone Church where we heard multiple stories of how God had radically turned people’s lives around. There was no other explanation for their life change other than the work God did in their hearts. One particular example is with a student named Molly.
At the beginning of June, Molly decided to make her way to a Salt Company gathering for the very first time. Walking in, she was in a place of questioning whether or not God exists after years of boldly proclaiming to be an atheist. She imagined she would just slip into the back of the room unnoticed and leave right after the service, but God had other plans. That night, a few staff were able to meet her, make her feel seen, and begin hearing her story. That conversation developed into continued meetups with a gal on staff named Sydney. Sydney dove deeper into questions that Molly had regarding God and how he could even love her after her denial of Him for years and years. Sydney distinctly remembers ending a conversation saying, “Molly, when you come to believe in all that Jesus has done for you – because I believe that day is near – I want you to tell me so we can throw a celebration!” She may have thought that sounded crazy in the moment but a few days later, that came to fruition.
At the following Salt Company gathering, Molly searched the crowd and found Sydney, with tears in her eyes, asking Sydney to pray with her as she decided to follow Jesus and believe in all that He has done for her. What a gift it has been getting to see Molly walk through life with a new hope and new life in Christ. She is currently signed up to go on a vision trip for a new church plant that is scheduled for 2022, and God has gifted her with a brand new community of believers to walk alongside her as she navigates life and faith in Jesus.
As we witnessed Molly’s baptism, she boldly proclaimed these words:
“I believe that I’ve come a long way to get where I am. Maybe about five months ago I said that I was a nonbeliever and I was content with denying God’s existence. But today I wouldn’t want to imagine my life without Him. I’ve lost several relationships in my life because of my change of heart, but I’ve gained even more relationships through going to church, Salt Company, and meeting new people through connection group. My baptism symbolizes to me that I can finally let go of the shame that still lingers in my life because I once denied God’s existence, but I’m so thankful for those who accepted me as I am and have helped me become the God loving person that I am!”
