On Sunday, May 20, CityPoint Church baptized fourteen people as part of their first baptism service at the Ramada Inn in Urbandale. CityPoint Church launched on March 11 and is the latest church plant launched as part of the Baptist Convention of Iowa.

Pastor Nick Reed said, “At least half of those baptized were saved within the last year and they are all baby believers. It was so exciting to see so many believe and be baptized quickly after that belief.”

The core team of CityPoint Church began serving Urbandale over a year ago in preparation for launch. They have a vision of seeing community service as the key platform for sharing Christ with the people of Urbandale and beyond. Nick added, “We want to be a church that multiplies disciples and leaders in the kingdom and this is the beginning of that journey. It is exciting to begin to see the fruits of the labor of our amazing core group that launched CityPoint eleven weeks ago, but more importantly we have begun to pray weekly that God would move and do what we can’t, when we are faithful with what he has given us.”

Before launching, Nick and his team spent a year developing as leaders and creating a strategy under the leadership of their sending church, First Family Church in Ankeny. Nick also participated in training and assessment with the North American Mission Board. While he is new to Southern Baptist life, Nick credits the partnership as integral to the work God is doing in Urbandale.

Nick added, “Thank you to all who give to the cooperative program. In reaching an unchurched, unbelieving community, these are people who do not give financially right away. Numbers of people may grow, but the bank account may not initially. Your giving has really made it possible for us to press on where we are to reach the lost and unreached in our community.”
