By Kourtney Vier, Salt Ministry Leader

The Salt Company of Cornerstone Church in Ames kicked off its fall ministry with the Freshman Kickoff, August 19th and our Salt Company Fall Kick Off, August 23rd. At the first event, we had about 1,000 freshmen join us on central campus to learn more about Salt Company. This was about 13% of the incoming freshman class. About 480 freshmen signed up for connection groups at this event.

Then, on Thursday, we had about 2,200 Iowa State students gather for an evening of worship and teaching from Matthew 8. Sol Rexius spoke on the healing of the man with leprosy, emphasizing that we are all unclean, but we can be cleaned by Jesus. Following the worship time, the students gathered around our 400 student leaders to sign up for connection groups for this fall. In addition to the 480 freshmen sign up for connection groups, we had an additional 715 students turn in connection group cards to our student leaders. The next three weeks will be spent having a “Gospel Follow-Up” with each person that turned in a card. Our student leaders received a gospel follow-up training at the beginning of the year and are eager to meet up with each student joining a connection group and Salt Company.

We are praying that through our efforts the Spirit of God would move in the hearts of students who do not know him and that we would encourage those who are believers. We are believing and praying that God will continue to amazing things through the ministry of Salt Company.
