Mike and Ginny Roberts came to Iowa in 1992 to serve as pastor and wife at Madison Baptist Church in Ft. Madison, Iowa. They served in this capacity from June of 1992 until September 30, 2000. During those years in Ft. Madison they were also involved in additional ministry in the region. Mike states that, “We were so excited to be involved with the planting of the new Bethany Baptist Church in Keokuk, and with Solid Rock Baptist Church in Wapello.    During that time, I also served with the Southeast Iowa Critical Incident Stress Management Team, and as an emergency services chaplain with the Ft. Madison Police and Fire Departments, and the Ft. Madison Community Hospital.  I was also a team member with the hospital’s first ethics committee.”

Mike and Ginny moved on October 1, 2000 to Waukee Baptist Church, Waukee, Iowa where they served as pastor and wife until July 15, 2007.  While serving in this church, they were able to be involved in the start of Iglesia Bautista in Waukee. Mike also served as an emergency services chaplain with the Waukee Police and Fire/Rescue Departments, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, the Iowa State Patrol and had the opportunity to teach a few classes at the Iowa Department of Public Safety Academy.  He also served with the Central Iowa Critical Incident Stress Management team.

On July 16, 2007 they began ministry as the Director of Missions with the Northeast Iowa Southern Baptist Association as commissioned missionaries with the North American Mission Board, SBC through Baptist Convention of Iowa.  He and Ginny served the churches of this Association through 2013.

Mike recalls, “As the transitional phase of the NAMB structure was beginning, we were called as the Director of Missions and wife for the Great Rivers Southern Baptist Association and began serving at the end of their annual meeting in September 2013.  I was allowed to continue working with the BCI and NAMB through December 2013 while beginning ministry with GRSBA.” He concludes, “My (our) ministry with GRSBA comes to a close December 31, 2019.

Mike does not plan to “retire” from ministry, thus he prefers to say that he is resigning as the Director of Missions for the GRSBA and exploring what the FATHER has in store next for the two of them. Iowa Baptists have been blessed to have these two “good and faithful servants” labor among us.
