This week, join with us in praying for Heartland Community Baptist Church in Sioux City. In addition to dealing with the prevailing issues related to COVID-19, Heartland recently suffered an incredible difficulty in the tragic murder of one of their key leaders, Lisa Belk.

A KEY CHURCH LEADER AT HEARTLAND CHURCH IN SIOUX CITY

Lisa Belk was very involved at Heartland Church and was a key leader in children’s ministry and youth ministry in many ways over the years. She was very active in Child Evangelism Fellowship and Vacation Bible School. Losing an important leader is always difficult but it is made especially challenging due to the circumstances of her death and the current environment of social distancing requirements.

A GREAT LADY and servant WHO WILL BE MISSED

Former BCI staff member, Richard Nations knew Lisa as a faithful and dedicated servant in Iowa. After hearing of her passing, Richard wrote of Lisa:

I wanted to comment on what a great lady Lisa Belk was and all the good things she has done. In addition to being a single mom and adopting several children and being a foster mom to many others, she was very involved in church youth and children’s ministries as well as Child Evangelism Fellowship. She was a regular fixture at Impact University, the BCI youth camp held every summer at Buena Vista University, and many other ministries.

I first met her through her involvement in training VBS workers in the association and state convention churches. One day she filled in for a trainer at a conference in Ankeny with very little notice. She just loaded up her kids, drove down from Sioux City and taught the seminar. A mutual friend of Lisa’s, Valerie Gladwyn-Nash said of her “She was a force to be reckoned with!”

Lisa was a great lady and servant of Christ who will be missed by her church and community.”

PRAY FOR THE BELK FAMILY AND HEARTLAND CHURCH

Please pray for the family and friends of Lisa Belk as they mourn her loss. Pray that the gospel to be heard by many as a result of these tragic circumstances and for wisdom for Heartland Church Senior Pastor Gene Stockton and Associate Pastor Tony Gulbrandsen as they navigate these difficult times.
