INTERESTING FACTS
Grace Church was started in 1979 by Pastor Bob Winvene. Originally an independent Baptist church, Grace chose to join the Southern Baptist Convention in the early 1980s. After Pastor Winvene left due to sickness, Grace was pastored briefly by Luis Nelms and then by David Nelms before Pastor Phil Winfield joined the church as pastor in 1984. Grace church has grown significantly in the last few decades on the east side of Des Moines and started several churches during that time.
Upcoming Events
One exciting new event that we have coming up is an outreach we are calling “Drive Thru Dinners.” We are using mailers to invite everyone from the neighborhoods around our building in East Des Moines for a free dinner on July 23rd. Guests will drive through our parking lot and stop at different stations where we will distribute welcome packets, gospel tracts, Bibles, prayer request cards, and, of course, free dinner. The dinner will be a dinner for 4-6 of cavatelli and bread. The purpose is to show goodwill to our community, care for their basic needs, and have a chance to give out the gospel. We plan to do this again in August and September and then reevaluate.
OTHER PRAYER REQUESTS
Our prayer request is that our church (and every gospel preaching church) would respond well to the need to have our members connected beyond the auditorium experience. As we consider the reality that we might not always be able to meet, developing greater connection to the ministry of the church in smaller formats is of utmost importance to us. We want to be the body of Christ in every area of life, not only in the worship service experience.
