The BCI Foundation Committee met on Tuesday, April 28th to discuss plans for the 2020 Iowa Ministry Fund. The Iowa Ministry Fund (IMF) provides financial grants to Christian non-church organizations that meet tangible physical, mental, and spiritual needs in Iowa in a gospel-centered way. The intent is to support ministries that specialize in meeting needs that would be challenging for individual churches to meet. At the meeting, Foundation Committee members shared personal updates and prayer requests before discussing the 2020 IMF application and grant process.
NEW AND RETURNING COMMITTEE MEMBERS
The 2020 Foundation Committee added one new committee member. Nick Reed is the lead pastor at CityPoint Church in Urbandale and will be a great addition to the committee. The vision of CityPoint is to “meet needs in community as a platform to share the gospel.” Two other members have returned for their second term this year, Becky Doubleday and Darin Ulmer.
The current Foundation Committee members are:
- Becky Doubleday – Children’s Ministry Director at First Family Church, Ankeny
- Derek Drummond – Leader at Sojourn Church, Bellevue, NE
- Terry Martens – Elder at Grand Avenue Baptist Church, Ames
- Nick Reed – Pastor at CityPoint Church, Urbandale
- Darin Ulmer – Pastor at Community Baptist Church, Marion
- Don Ward – Deacon at Madison Baptist Church, Ft. Madison
CHANGES DUE TO COVID-19
There were several changes to the IMF process due to COVID-19. The deadline for submitting applications for the 2020 IMF has been pushed back to June 30, 2020. The most significant change will be the determination of the financial amount of the grants. In previous years, grants were typically $5k or $10 and were determined by the Foundation Committee at the ministry selection meeting. This year, due to the financial impact of COVID-19, the BCI Executive Board will determine the funds available for IMF grants prior to awarding grants to organizations recommended by the Foundation Committee. There were no significant changes to the application form questions.
IOWA MINISTRY FUND APPLICATION OPEN
The Iowa Ministry Fund is now open for submissions. If you know of any effective and gospel-centered organizations that are serving the needy in Iowa, please forward the application link to them or send them to the IMF webpage.
