Serving with Purpose: Spreading the Gospel through Acts of Love
Generations Church in Cedar Falls Iowa has made serving their community part of their DNA since before they planted and opened their doors just six months ago.. They believe that serving people is the handle that opens the door to Gospel Conversations. Their serve projects have helped to have 75 salvation decisions in the first six months since opening.
“Everything we do is All about the gospel”
Each month Generations has a serve day. They have also partnered with local agencies such as love inc to help them serve the city. in April Generations Church delivered mattresses and beds to low income poverty stricken families. While they set up the beds they were able to give the “why behind their serving” which most times led to gospel conversations, prayer, and an invitation to the church.
On July 15th Generations Church had 45 volunteers come together to tackle 5 different service projects. These included delivering donuts, cookies and goodies to 10 fire and police stations with thank you cards and invite cards, going to 6 different laundromats and paying for everyone’s laundry. They would hand out zip lock baggies that included quarters for their laundry, tide pods, dryer sheets, and serve day card explaining why we love and want to serve them, a salvation prayer card. Other service projects included blessing bags and food for the homeless, property clean up for widows, and letter writing to inmates, send network church planters, and missionaries.
The service days have not only changed those they serve, but it has changed those who are serving as they are learning to be the hands of feet of Christ.
Generations Church in just 6 short months has already established themselves as a city on a hill, and a place where the community knows they will find a loving group of people that will help them physically, spiritually, and emotionally. Why? Because serving shows the love of Jesus and opens doors to the gospel.
