Tim Lubinus to Transition to a New Role in Missions & Church Planting
After more than 12 years of serving the churches of Iowa, Tim Lubinus is preparing to transition from his role as BCI Executive Director into a new season of ministry. Sometime early next year, Tim will move into a new ministry assignment with Cornerstone Church in Ames, focusing on global missions and other ministry opportunities connected to his experience and calling.
“This has been, and continues to be, a joy for me,” Tim said. “I love serving the people and churches of Iowa, and I’m grateful for the opportunity God has given me to serve alongside so many faithful leaders.”
Tim’s connection to Iowa and the BCI runs deep. He was born and raised in Northwest Iowa and first became involved with a BCI church while attending Iowa State University. He was baptized and became a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church in Ames, where he was also called to ministry.
Before joining BCI in 2014, Tim served as missions pastor at Cornerstone Church in Ames and spent many years serving internationally with the International Mission Board, including ministry in Korea and Central Asia. That missions experience has continued to shape his work with BCI, including his leadership of the Daniel Project and his involvement in church planting and missions across Iowa.
“The impact that Tim has had on the effectiveness of the BCI cannot be overstated. He has led courageously and faithfully for more than a decade. Tim leaves the BCI in a great spot for the next chapter, and it has been an honor to serve alongside of him the last four years,” said Eric Trout, President of the BCI Executive Board.
Grady Adkins, First Vice President of the BCI Executive Board, said, “Tim has served the Baptist Convention of Iowa faithfully and has led with wisdom, humility, and a genuine love for the churches and people of our state. I am thankful for his leadership, his friendship, and the way he has positioned our convention for the future.”
Tim will continue serving BCI during the transition and will work with the Executive Board to help ensure a healthy handoff to the next Executive Director. The Board will begin the process of identifying BCI’s next leader in the months ahead.
Tim’s new ministry assignment is expected to begin in early 2027. He is not retiring, but transitioning into a role that will allow him to focus more deeply on missions and ministry opportunities he has been passionate about throughout his ministry.
