On June 19, 2026, one of our own, Pastor Dan Wiersema, was called home to be with his Lord. Pastor Dan faithfully served as pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids for 20 years, and served as BCI President from 2011-2013.
Remembering the Life & Ministry of Pastor Dan Wiersema
Pastor Dan’s ministry at Immanuel Baptist Church was characterized by faithful, steady leadership. Year after year, he invested in teaching God’s Word, developing leaders, welcoming new members, supporting missions, and nurturing a church family that cared for one another and served its community. Through countless ordinary moments of ministry, he helped build a culture of discipleship and gospel-centered faithfulness that will leave a lasting impact on the church.
“Pastor Dan was the kindest, gentlest, and most understanding pastor. He will be sorely missed.”
– Rick Schloss, Elder at Immanuel Baptist Church
Leading & Serving in BCI During a Critical Time
During his tenure as President of the Baptist Convention of Iowa from 2011–2013, Dan provided steady and unifying leadership during a significant season of transition. As the convention navigated interim leadership, the search for a new Executive Director, and important organizational changes, he helped foster a renewed spirit of cooperation among Iowa churches while keeping the focus on the Convention’s mission. Fellow leaders consistently pointed to his wisdom, stability, and servant-hearted leadership as instrumental in guiding the Convention through a pivotal chapter in its history.
I had the blessing of knowing Dan for over 20 years. He was a devoted pastor, a constant encouragement, and a dear friend. He spoke of his wife, Londa, and daughter, Lily, with joyful affection. Dan’s selfless service to Immanuel Baptist Church, a congregation he deeply loved, is a model of pastoral faithfulness.
– Eric Schumacher, BCI Pastoral Ministry Director
A Shepherd’s Legacy
Pastor Dan leaves behind a legacy of faithful service to Christ, his church, and the people he loved. Through decades of pastoral ministry, convention leadership, church planting efforts, and personal discipleship, he consistently pointed others to Jesus with humility, wisdom, and grace.
“Pastor Dan was not just a very close friend, he was the person I talked to about personal concerns and ministry wisdom as a pastor. He was a faithful dedicated man of prayer and a serious student of the Scripture.”
– Darin Ulmer, Pastor at Community Baptist Church, Marion
We are grateful for Pastor Dan’s enduring impact on Immanuel Baptist Church, the Baptist Convention of Iowa, and countless individuals whose lives were shaped by his ministry. While we mourn his passing, we rejoice in the assurance that he is now in the presence of the Savior he faithfully served.
